Hennepin County Sherriff's Office and Hennepin County Library Expand Cold Weather Donation Drive

December 15, 2022 (Minneapolis) – The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) launched its annual cold weather item donation drive on Wednesday, November 23rd. This drive collects donations of new or gently used cold weather items for distribution to homeless and unsheltered individuals in Hennepin County. Today, HCSO is proud to announce 15 additional collection sites, thanks to an expanded partnership with the Hennepin County Library system.

Starting next week, Hennepin County residents will be able to donate cold weather items at the following Hennepin County Library locations, in addition to the Minneapolis Central Library and HCSO locations: Arvonne Frasier, Brookdale, East Lake, Excelsior, Franklin, Hosmer, Minnetonka, Nokomis, North Regional, Northeast, Pierre Bottineau, Ridgedale, Southdale, Sumner, and Washburn. The full list of donation locations with addresses is below.

Donated items will be distributed through various means, including distributions by the HCSO Community Outreach team and to individuals visiting the homeless outreach center at the Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55401. Cold weather items may also be distributed to individuals leaving jail or court hearings without adequate clothing, or anyone else in need that HCSO employees encounter in the course of their duties.

Items being requested include new or gently used coats, hats, mittens, boots, scarves, new socks, and disposable hand/foot warmers. HCSO requests that individuals do not donate used items that require extensive cleaning or repair.

Donations will be accepted through February 28. The dates of the donation drive may be adjusted based on weather and need. HCSO has released a new video starring a very special helper to promote the drive, which you can watch here.

Donations of new or gently used cold weather items may be donated at drop boxes placed at the locations below. The Sheriff’s Administration can also accept donated items by mail.
