Hennepin County is soliciting proposals for culturally appropriate healthy food distribution.
Hennepin County recognizes the strong relationship between diet and health and has had a long-term practice of supporting food security. Previous funding awarded for community food insecurity need included both Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding that totaled $855,000 awarded to five different community providers.
This request for proposals (RFP) increases this funding by an additional $1.6 million to continue efforts to address ongoing food insecurity within Hennepin County. This RFP is seeking community providers willing and capable of providing culturally appropriate healthy food distribution to Hennepin County residents. Hennepin County's goal is to shift the paradigm from food insecurity to food security for residents in need.
Vendor qualfications
Vendors who are eligible to submit a proposal to this RFP include community organizations physically located within Hennepin County that are one or more of these classifications:
- Non-profits
- Mutual assistance associations
- Culturally specific organizations
- Food banks, food shelves, and food pantries
- Educational institutions
- Faith-based organizations
Priority will be given to vendors providing culturally appropriate healthy food items who do not currently have a contract for addressing food insecurity.
Proposal timeline
How to submit a proposal
- RFP materials are posted in the Hennepin County Supplier Portal. Look for the RFP titled “Culturally Appropriate Healthy Food Distribution."
- Providers will submit proposals via the Hennepin County Supplier Portal. Providers who do not already have a Supplier Portal account first need to register with the Supplier Portal in order to submit their application.
