Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday, and it’s the perfect time to shop at the local businesses that are an essential part of our community.
For many residents, the Thanksgiving holiday kicks off a season of gathering, dining, shopping, and experiencing arts and culture. Looking for something unique, something personal? Visit local small businesses this holiday shopping season. Supporting small, independently owned businesses has positive social, economic, and environmental impacts.
Hennepin County launched the Love Local campaign with multiple cities across the county to encourage residents to support the essential local businesses that create jobs, boost the local economy, and make our communities vibrant places to live and work.
We encourage you to show your local pride with a Love Local window cling. Get a Love Local window cling for your business here or get in touch with economic.development@hennepin.us.

Remember, the Hennepin County's Assessor's Office is offering free help to better understand homestead eligibility and the homestead application process on Wednesday, November 30, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Hopkins Library.
You may qualify for homestead status if:
- You or one of your relatives live in the home
- You own the home in your name and not as a business entity
- You have a social security number
A homestead classification may qualify your property for a Homestead Market Value Exclusion and save you money on your property taxes. Homesteads are administered by counties, and the deadline to apply is December 31.
Apply online now.

Please join me next week for the last 'Coffee with the Commissioner' event of 2022. We will meet at the Edina Library Conference Room on Saturday, December 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

I’m writing with words of gratitude and well wishes around an upcoming District 6 staff transition. Jessica Oaxaca, who has served as our District 6 Director has accepted a new and exciting role as Hennepin Healthcare's Advocacy Engagement Manager. Her last day in our office will be Monday, November 28.
In the two years on the District 6 team she has played an invaluable role advancing Hennepin County’s mission of serving residents through her efforts to amplify the County’s work and engage our community.
Any sadness I feel at her departure is greatly exceeded by the gratitude I have for the ways she has served the work, and excitement for the ways she will continue to advance our collective efforts in her new role.
I hope you’ll join me in sending Jessica off with gratitude and well wishes on her next chapter.
As we work to fill her role, please reach out to Kyle Olson, my Policy Director, if you need to reach our office. He can be reached at kyle.olson02@hennepin.us or at 612-348-3168.

The aggressive and coordinated initiative, which has a 30-member team that works one-on-one with people experiencing homelessness, has placed 331 people into permanent housing in the past year. Officials say it's the most impactful single effort in county history.
"The program gave us a chance when nobody else would," Bridges said.
Homeless to Homes morphed from the county's efforts to move 464 homeless, senior citizens and others most vulnerable to COVID-19 into motels and hotels over two years. As the pandemic subsided and people got vaccinated, the county decided to become "housing-focused" with the homeless instead of letting them shuffle through emergency stays in the shelter system.

Public comment
Residents are invited to express their opinions on the proposed budget and property taxes as well as the budget and property tax levy of the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority and the Hennepin County Housing and Redevelopment Authority.
The following methods for making public comments are available:
For questions about your property valuation, contact the assessor's office
Property values are one factor affecting property taxes owed for an individual property. The Assessor's Office assesses your property and estimates the value it would likely sell for on the open market, which is one factor used in determining your property tax. In some municipalities the city assessor, rather than the county, determines property values. Find the correct contact information for your assessor.
