August 2022
In collaboration with Star Tribune columnist Myron Medcalf, Hennepin County Library has selected Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler as our Fall 2022 title. The Mary Ann Key Book Club is named after the matriarch of Medcalf’s family who was enslaved in Georgia in the 1850s. The book club honors her memory and is intended to engage readers in discussions about race, racism, antiracism and how our past influences our present with the goal to spur action and accountability. Check out www.hclib.org/events or subscribe to the Mary Ann Key Book Club Newsletter for the latest program updates.

Upgrade to the Libby app to access eBooks and comics, eMagazines, read-alongs, and downloadable audiobooks. The legacy OverDrive app will be retired early in 2023. The Libby app provides a unified bookshelf for all loans and holds; support for multiple library cards; push notifications for titles of interest; tags to track favorite reads; wish lists, and more. Learn more about how to make the switch. |
On the New Titles page under Explore in the catalog, you may toggle between the “Just Arrived” tab and the “On Order” tab. Use the filters to limit items by format, content, audience, and language. Find titles that just arrived in print, DVD and CD formats using the lists at the bottom of the page. Use our Forthcoming Fiction list to place holds on titles that have been announced but not published yet.

Local authors – indie, self-published, aspiring and mainstream – can create eBooks and share them with readers across the state and country with our MN Writes MN Reads tools. Use Pressbooks to self-publish your eBook and the Indie Author Project to share your book locally and potentially nation-wide. If you share your book it will appear in Indie Minnesota, a collection that any reader can browse and read from at any time. |
