Update on Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Investigation of Police Pursuit and Subsequent Crash

July 16, 2022 (Minneapolis) - The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) says Hakeem Waheed Muhammed, age 28 of Minneapolis, is the driver of the vehicle involved in yesterday's police pursuit and subsequent crash in Brooklyn Center, MN that killed a 6-year-old girl.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office says Muhammed, who was wanted for murder, fled from Brooklyn Center Police Officers around 4:30 pm on Friday and crashed into a second vehicle near 53rd and Humboldt Avenues.

The 6-year-old girl who died was one of four passengers in the second vehicle.  A 15-year-old girl, also a passenger in that vehicle, remains hospitalized. The driver and the two remaining passengers have been released from the hospital.

Muhammed, who had an active warrant out for his arrest for murder, was taken into police custody at the scene of the crash. There is no booking photo available at this time as he remains hospitalized.

This is an active, on-going investigation. No further information is available at this time.
