Anti-Hate Initiative Program Coordinator
Such exciting news! Last year, my wonderful policy aide Vicky Soukaseum wrote a BAR (Board Action Request) to create a program to analyze hate and bias-motivated incidents in Hennepin County and make recommendations. Part of the $1 million allocated is going to a staff person to oversee the program.

Hennepin County Library Youth Advisory Committee
Hennepin County Library is seeking applicants for a new youth advisory committee. Two applicants will be appointed by each of Hennepin County’s seven commissioners.

Members must:
- Live in Hennepin County
- Be 16 - 19 years old
- Be able to serve a 1-year term (September '22 – August '23)
- Commit to a monthly meeting (some will be in-person and some virtual)

Property Taxes
 Property Vales: Housing market, Renovations, Similar properties, Improvements, Bedrooms, Neighborhood, Bathrooms, Other factors
This spring, taxpayers will receive property valuation notices in the mail and may see a noticeable increase in property value.

How is this determined?: the real estate market influences the assessed value of all types of property, and Hennepin County determines a value for each property by analyzing sales and market conditions. Improvements to the property also impact the value.

 Route Recommendation: A route recommendation has been released for the METRO Blue Line Extension. Visit www.BlueLineExt.org for more details.
The METRO Blue Line Extension Route Recommendation was released last month. This critical step of the project evaluated the two route options in North Minneapolis and recommended West Broadway. This recommendation comes from evaluating how each of the options met the 6 project goals, all of which address different community needs including:
- Linking people more efficiently to educational and employment opportunities
- Improving frequency and reliability of transit service
- Supporting communities’ economic development goals
- Addressing historic disinvestment
- Improving public health and reducing pollution

Thanks Shannon Slatton at CCX Media for interviewing me on the work Hennepin County and our partners have been doing to interrupt the cycle of violence.
I feel strongly that collaborative efforts need to be our focus. Finger pointing will get us nowhere. All levels and branches of government have to work together to make the necessarily changes. This is why I feel so strongly in the work of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee (CJCC), whose purpose is to look at the criminal justice system as a whole.

What: accelerate economic recovery and address disparities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting:
- Projects that provide long-term affordable commercial space or business incubators
- Non-profits providing services to disproportionately impacted communities to support economic recover
