hauler update

HERC annual spring outage

Exterior of HERC

HERC will undergo extensive maintenance work between April 4 through May 6, 2022. We need to make some adjustments to the waste delivery hours to the facility in order to manage waste volumes.

Limited direct haul will begin on Monday, April 4, and the last day will be Friday, May 6. HERC will accept waste only between the hours of 4 to 6 a.m. Regular hours will resume on Monday, May 9. HERC will accept waste during normal hours on Saturday and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the limited direct haul. Please note these dates are subject to change.

Brooklyn Park Transfer Station (BPTS) will accept waste during normal hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions about this, please contact Barry Melquist at 612-348-4491 or Enrique Vinas at 612-348-4919.

April hauler licensing reminders

Renew hauler licenses this April

Hennepin County regional license applications will be emailed in the first week of April 2022. Please look for your license application for the licensing period of 2022-2024. If you do not receive your application in the first week of April, please email Haulers@hennepin.us.

Vehicle ID decals must be visible by April 1 to enter HERC and BPTS

To avoid any delays at the scale houses, effective April 1, all haulers must have Hennepin County identifying numbers clearly visible on their trucks. These numbers must be in our system to use HERC or Brooklyn Park Transfer Station. If you need numbers for your trucks or have any question, please contact us at Haulers@hennepin.us.

Hennepin County seeks hauler and waste facility operator input for development of a Zero-Waste Plan

Earlier this year, Hennepin County started laying the groundwork to develop a zero waste plan. The plan will identify strategies that accelerate Hennepin County’s path to zero-waste. This process includes a number of engagement opportunities for industry stakeholders and community members to provide their perspectives on what is working well in our current solid waste system and where the gaps for improvement lie. Engagement will consist of two phases:

Phase 1

Gather industry stakeholder and community perspectives to identify themes.

Phase 2

Create and propose strategies through workgroups comprised of industry stakeholders and community members.

Strategies will be presented to the county board in November, and the plan is expected to be finalized in early 2023. Invitations to participate in a waste hauler and facility operator stakeholder virtual listening session will be sent out in the coming weeks, along with a survey for those that aren’t able to attend. If you have questions about the zero-waste plan development, or would like to become more involved in the process, please email Carolyn Collopy, Environment and Energy Department, at carolyn.collopy@hennepin.us
