Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Arrests Fugitive Who Failed to Return from Furlough

January 25, 2022 (Minneapolis) - Earlier today, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF) tracked down and arrested Shevirio Kavirion Childs-Young in Brooklyn Center.

VOTF began efforts to locate Childs-Young earlier this month after he was released from custody on a furlough and failed to return as part of his conditions.

VOTF Investigators located Childs-Young in a vehicle in North Minneapolis and partnered with the MN State Patrol air support. MN State Patrol air support and VOTF investigators followed Childs-Young to strip mall located in the 1000 block of Shingle Creek Crossing in Brooklyn Center, where he was ultimately arrested.

Prior to the apprehension, Childs-Young attempted to flee in a vehicle but the VOTF investigators utilized a vehicle box maneuver to prevent his escape. Childs-Young was uncooperative with deputies and had to be removed from the vehicle. After taking Childs-Young into custody, VOTF Investigators learned that Childs-Young had an infant in the car with him as he attempted to flee. Fortunately, the quick actions of investigators prevented Childs-Young from fleeing, and no injuries occurred to the infant, VOTF personnel or Childs-Young. Pursuant to his arrest, handgun magazines were recovered from Childs-Young’s vehicle. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the MN State Patrol for their critical assistance during this apprehension.
