Greetings! We hope our newsletter serves as a resource for staying connected to Hennepin County activities and staying updated on county news and services.
As always, please reach out with questions, comments, or to learn more about how to get involved.
The District 4 team is looking for an appointee to the Race Equity Advisory Council! You must be a Hennepin County resident living in the 4th district with a passion for racial justice. To learn more, read below and email shanese.reed@hennepin.us or binta.kanteh@hennepin.us.
Childhood immunizations protect kids from serious diseases like COVID-19, measles, mumps, rubella, and diphtheria. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, childhood immunization rates have fallen in Minnesota.
Not only do childhood immunizations help keep children safe, but they also protect other vulnerable family members. As families prepare to come together for the holidays, getting children caught up on childhood immunizations, including the COVID-19 vaccination if they’re five or older, helps keep all family members safe and healthy.
Connecting to childhood immunization services is easy
Hennepin County has programs to help families get their children caught up on all immunizations, including the COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of their health insurance status. The county can also help families connect to services not run by Hennepin County.
To connect to childhood immunization services
- Call 612-348-8900. Help is available in English, Spanish, Somali, and Hmong.
- Visit the county’s childhood immunization website, hennepin.us/immunizations. The site lists immunization programs and other resources like vaccine schedules.
To connect with COVID-19 vaccinations
- Hennepin County is offering COVID-19 vaccinations for children 5-11 and for older children 12+.
- To find and register for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment:

Celebrating National Adoption Day
In November, Hennepin County observes an annual recognition of National Adoption Month. On Saturday, November 20 – National Adoption Day – we’re celebrating 20 families finalizing adoptions for 34 Hennepin County children and teens.
With this milestone, they join many other families on this journey, including the Dubras, who adopted four siblings last year.
“Then I knew this was the perfect place to be,” says Heaven Dubra about her adoptive family.

Visualization of proposed concept 2 for Hennepin Avenue
Hennepin County is currently developing a design plan for improvements to Hennepin and First Avenues between Main Street and 8th Street in Northeast Minneapolis.
With construction set to begin in 2023, the project team is currently conducting a survey between a couple of concepts. You can find that survey and vote for your favorite concept here.
Concept 1 includes one parking lane, three vehicle travel lanes, and a bike lane with a six foot buffer.
Concept 2 preserves an existing parking lane, includes two vehicle travel lanes, a dedicated transit lane for buses, and a bike lane protected by an above ground buffer to encourage safer bike travel through this crucial corridor into the heart of Northeast Minneapolis.
