Hennepin CoC News:
Help Needed: Looking for additional daytime warming sites
Warming centers offer daytime refuge from the cold for people with no other options. The county is seeking organizations, churches, or other entities that could provide warming space.
At www.Hennepin.us/staywarm, you can see a list of sites that offer warming space during our harsh winter. To adequately meet the need of our community, there is a need for more sites. While some sites do sites offer services like case management or meals, this is not an expectation of all sites. The only requirement is that you are open to serving everyone. If you want to have your site/building/church/agency added to our Stay Warm list or you are interested, but have some hesitations or questions, please contact erin.wixsten@hennepin.us. Hennepin County may be able to help overcome barriers.

Additional funds now available for supporting outbreak responses |
The Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) has Federal Fiscal Recovery Funds available to support rapid responses to outbreaks in shelters and other temporary congregate settings for people experiencing homelessness or domestic violence. OEO will be working closely with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to allocate available funding for targeted, immediate outbreak response activities to support an effective response and reduce the health impacts for shelter guests and staff.
The survey to request funding will open after the webinar on Wednesday, October 27, and can be found on the Heading Home Alliance website. Entities can request funding back to the allocation date of September 15, 2021. If you have an active COVID-19 outbreak at your congregate setting, please reach out to the MDH congregate health team at Health.R-Congregate@state.mn.us, for support managing the response.

Information Session on Shelter Capital Funding |
The Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless (MCH) is holding a virtual Shelter Capital Information Session on November 10 from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. The goal of the event is to ensure anyone that is considering a project that includes funding needs for capital costs can get information to better prepare themselves to submit a proposal through the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO).
OEO will introduce eligibility and application information for $17 million in resources for acquisition and renovation of emergency homeless shelters. OEO staff will provide an overview of eligible applicants, projects, and activities; review the funding timeline; and provide information about the application process. These resources will be distributed via a competitive RFP process and must be utilized before June 30, 2023. The RFP is expected to be shared in December 2021. Additionally, DLR architecture firm will have architects available to answer questions. MCH will also share a resource list of other architects and designers.
To receive the Zoom link to join or if you have questions please email Matt@mnhomelesscoalition.org.
