Learn more about them below. Use our Ask Us service anytime to get reading suggestions or answers to any questions you have.

OverDrive: your one stop for eMaterials in 2021

Libby

This year a new OverDrive site and the Libby app are the primary tools for you to access eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines and streaming video from your library. The site expands your access to titles from other Twin Cities metro library systems in addition to our collection.

Library eMaterials that were on other platforms, including RBdigital and cloudLibrary, have moved to the new site which went live on March 1.

Your first time in the new combined MELSA: Twin Cities Metro eLibrary Overdrive site or Libby app will require you to log back in to see your full account. Choose Hennepin County Library as your library and login with your library card number and four-digit PIN.

Want to join a new community book club?

Mary Ann Key Book Club brand

We and our collaborator, columnist Myron Medcalf, invite you to participate in a shared, focused reading experience on themes of race, racism, and antiracism.

The club’s first selection is Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson.

The book describes racism in the United States as an aspect of a caste system – a society-wide system of social stratification characterized by notions such as hierarchy, inclusion and exclusion, and purity. Wilkerson compares aspects of the experience of American people of color to the caste systems of India and Nazi Germany, and she explores the impact of caste on societies shaped by them, and their people.

This summer, we will announce a second book title with events and discussions in fall 2021.

Binge-worthy lists

WandaVision

Have you been binge watching shows on streaming services? We may have a list for you! We have chosen some of the most popular shows to riff off of and shared recommendations you can read, watch and listen to. Examples include:

Watch movies and listen to music

MnSpin
  • Stream local artists and download songs to keep from MNspin. We added 93 albums in 2020, growing the platform to over 300 albums in 18 genres.
  • Find more music on Freegal, which is now allowing streaming 24-hours a day. You can download 5 songs a week to keep.
  • Stream videos in OverDrive Digital Library. Popular picks include feature films, the Great Courses lectures, exercise videos, and children's titles. Find them in the catalog by searching for "streaming video" and using the filter on the left to narrow your results.
