New website helps Hennepin County renters maintain housing stability

United Way

What is Renters’ Help?

Hennepin County and United Way 211 have launched a new Renters’ Help website that provides information on services for local renters, with the goal of helping residents maintain stable housing. Renters located in Hennepin County can use this tool to search for services related to an urgent housing situation, including being behind on rent, facing eviction, or a dispute with a landlord.

Who is Renters’ Help for?

Renters’ Help provides information for Hennepin County residents facing an urgent housing situation. Individuals and those assisting people can access the site to find information on local housing resources.

How does Renters’ Help work?

Users can enter their city or zip code to find information on resources available for Hennepin County residents. After answering a few questions about their situation, which may include being behind on rent, facing an eviction, or experiencing a dispute with a landlord, renters will be directed to the most relevant resources. Renters can access a variety of information that may include legal fact sheets, links to apply for county benefits, or referrals to community organizations that provide services like mediation or rent/utility assistance.

In the case of community organizations, users of the site will be able to see if an organization may or may not have financial resources on hand, which can help them make decisions about which organizations to contact first.

Racism and the Economy: Focus on Housing

Virtual video event presented by all 12 District Banks of the Federal Reserve System

March 1, 2021
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. CT

This event will focus on systemic racism in our housing markets and its impact on economic outcomes for all Americans. Our keynote speakers will outline the historical and contemporary context of how racism, racial exclusion, and predatory inclusion have limited housing opportunities and wealth-building for communities of color. Leaders from the public, nonprofit, and academic sectors will then present policy proposals for dismantling the deep inequities in housing market valuation, mortgage lending, and patterns of housing development. These proposals will kick-start a wide-ranging conversation among researchers, policymakers, and community leaders who are committed to eliminating racial disparities in housing opportunity.
