West Broadway Avenue (County Road 81) in Minneapolis and Robbinsdale
Realignment work begins tomorrow
Starting tomorrow, December 10, crews will begin realignment work on West Broadway Avenue (County Road 81) between 29th and Abbott avenues on the border between Minneapolis and Robbinsdale.
Crews will start by removing areas of the median. Then, crews will construct temporary crossover lanes between the southbound and northbound lanes.
For your safety and the safety of our crews, please exercise caution and slow down as you travel through the area.
All traffic to move to northbound lanes next week
Next week, we will shift southbound West Broadway Avenue traffic between 29th and Abbott avenues to the northbound bridge, which will be restriped to a single lane in each direction.
This work is occurring in advance of an upcoming bridge replacement project and due to continued violations of posted weight restrictions on the southbound bridge.
The realignment will remain in place until the bridge is replaced as part of the West Broadway Avenue Bridges reconstruction starting this spring. All three existing bridges in the area will be replaced.
Access and impacts
We will continue to provide access to North Memorial Hospital, local businesses and residences in the area using the northbound bridge. The ramp connecting westbound Lowry Avenue (County Road 153) to northbound West Broadway Avenue will remain open.
For those travelling southbound on West Broadway Avenue, the ramp to Theodore Wirth Parkway will close and people may use 29th Avenue to access the parkway.
