Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Raises Nearly $9,000 to Battle Breast Cancer
November 12, 2020 (Minneapolis) – During the month of October, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) sold 1,254 limited edition pink Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office badges, raising $8,926 for the American Cancer Society. The badges were sold as part of the agency’s participation in the Pink Patch Project, an innovative public awareness campaign designed to raise money and awareness for the battle against breast cancer. The HCSO donation total of $8,926 was 100 percent of total revenue generated after production costs.
Since 2013, many law enforcement agencies have been wearing pink patches on their uniforms during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2015, agencies began selling collectible pink patches to the public. Since its inception, the Pink Patch Project has raised over $1 million dollars for various cancer research organizations. In October 2020, participating Minnesota law enforcement agencies raised a combined total of over $24,000.
Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson said he is very pleased by the amount the HCSO raised in its first year participating in the Pink Patch Project. “Cancer touches far too many lives in our community, and breast cancer specifically has affected several members of our staff,” Sheriff Hutchinson said. “As an agency dedicated to promoting the wellness of those in our community, we are proud to help in any way possible against this terrible disease.”
Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were allowed to wear the pink versions of the agency’s official patches throughout the month of October, and civilian staff could wear pink versions of the agency’s polo shirt. Members of the public could purchase the collectable pink patches for $10. More information about the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office participation in the Pink Patch project can be seen in our conclusion video here.
