Hennepin County Jail Inmate Dies of Apparent Suicide
September 17, 2020 (Minneapolis) - The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said today that a 23-year-old man who was in an inmate at the Hennepin County Jail has died from an apparent suicide.
At approximately 5:45 pm on Friday, September 11, 2020, during routine inmate health and wellness checks, deputies found the man unresponsive in his cell. The man was housed in a cell alone. Deputies immediately began CPR. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) where he has remained until his death today.
He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on September 11, 2020 about 1:45 pm after being arrested on a felony probation violation.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will make the identification and determine the official cause of death. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the scene and detectives are investigating the incident. The Department of Corrections will also review the death.
No additional information will be released at this time.
