The board established the Healthy Tree Canopy Grants program to provide funding to cities, affordable housing providers, schools and nonprofits to enhance the county’s tree canopy. These grants combat threats to trees from invasive insects and diseases and support efforts to educate the public on the importance of trees.
At our August 25th meeting, the Board approved $50,000 to remove large ash trees, perform one-time treatment on high quality ash trees, and plant 325 trees in parks and right of ways to increase species diversity.

About 40% of food is wasted somewhere along the supply chain. Taking steps to reduce food waste is one of the most effective things you can do to reduce the amount of waste you generate and address climate change.
Hennepin County's Stop Food Waste Challenge has more than 40 actions to choose from in five categories. Check off the actions you already take, then select up to five one-time actions and five daily actions to track your progress on during the 4-week challenge.
