Absentee ballot numbers

Voters in Hennepin County cast more votes in this year’s primary election than in any primary election for the past 30 years.

As of August 14 at 6:30 p.m., nearly 302,000 residents voted in the election, either at the polling place or absentee.

Apply for an absentee ballot online with the Secretary of State. Due to COVID-19 and record levels of absentee voting, allow additional time for absentee materials to be mailed.

Important dates

  • September 18: Absentee voting begins 
  • October 13: Pre-registration ends at 5 p.m.  
  • November 2: In-person absentee voting closes at 5 p.m.
  • November 3: General election day, polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
