Library services are still here for you

In these unprecedented times, Hennepin County Library is here for you, with extensive services still available to readers of all ages. We're expanding access to our online resources so that the time you stay at home can be filled with entertainment, learning and exploration. In this issue, we're introducing a new way to access our materials online, reminding you about what's available to read and listen to, and sharing timely and high demand resources that have improved access. Use our Ask Us service anytime to get reading suggestions or answers to any questions you have. 

Temporary e-cards provide instant access to library resources online

eCard

If you would like a library card, Hennepin County residents and property owners can apply online to get a temporary e-card. If you already have a library card registered with Hennepin County Library, you can continue to use it and do not need to apply for an e-card.

Like regular library cards, temporary e-cards provide instant access to library resources online, including eBooks and other downloads, plus more than 150 online resources for learning and research.

RBDigital

Explore our online resources that give you access to thousands of titles to read and listen to for all ages and in some world languages. All you need is a library card or temporary e-card registered with Hennepin County Library. Take a look at our links to what is available right now in a variety of genres. Bonus: Did you know you can also read magazines through RBdigital?

Build job skills or look for a job

MCIS

On our business and employment page, discover a number of great resources to help you craft a resume, practice job interviews, take career tests, and more. Recent changes include CustomGuide for computer training and MCIS (Minnesota Career Information System) becoming available outside of library buildings.

  • ALLDATA Repair: Available remotely only while buildings are temporarily closed. Find automotive diagnostic and repair information, Technical Service Bulletins, and printable wiring diagrams. Best viewed using Internet Explorer or Firefox.
  • Ancestry Library Edition: Available remotely only while buildings are temporarily closed. Find census records, passenger lists, birth, death, marriage, and military records, family and local history collections, newspapers and directories. Best viewed using Internet Explorer or Firefox.
  • Birds of the World: Formerly Birds of North America, find comprehensive, authoritative information on every bird species in the world, including maps, images, videos, and audio files of songs and calls. Designed for researchers, biologists, naturalists, and birders. 

Watch movies and listen to music

MnSpin
  • Stream local artists and download songs to keep from MNspin.
  • Find more music on Freegal, which is now allowing streaming 24-hours a day. You can download 5 songs a week to keep.
  • Stream videos in OverDrive Digital Library. Popular picks include feature films, the Great Courses lectures, exercise videos, and children's titles.

Delve into local history with our Digital Collections
