Watch for your census invite this month

Census

Watch for your invite from the U.S. Census Bureau starting March 12. The official 2020 Census Day is coming up on April 1, but most people can start filling it out early. For the first time ever, you can take the census online, as well as by phone or mail. Want help? Visit a Questionnaire Assistance Center.

Each person counted equals $28,000 in federal funding over the next 10 years, so it is essential that Minnesotans fill out and return their questionnaires.

Debbie around the district

Since my last newsletter, here are a few highlights from my work...

Eden Prairie Library

It was my pleasure to join my neighbors in Eden Prairie in celebrating the reopening of the Eden Prairie Library last Tuesday. With bright spaces, an eye for innovative use of space, and special touches to minimize our carbon footprint, Eden Prairie has every reason to be excited about having their library back. Check out photos of the space here.

MOA Transit Station

(Pictured: Council Member Patrick Martin, Council Member Nathan Coulter, Mayor Tim Busse, myself, Senator Melissa Halvorson Wiklund, and Representative Andrew Carlson)

Metro Transit officially opened the renovated Mall of America Transit Station. The City, County, State, and many others worked together to improve one of Minnesota's busiest transportation centers. The station will be connecting more people to housing, jobs, and friends around the metro area than ever before.

Dr. Cumming

(Pictured left to right: Commissioners Jeff Johnson, Irene Fernando, Jan Callison, Dr. John Cumming, and Commissioners Marion Greene, myself, Mike Opat, and Angela Conley)

The County Board bid farewell to Hennepin Healthcare's Interim CEO, Dr. John Cumming. He has been nothing short of an exemplary leader in every role he's filled at the hospital, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Women's History Month

Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month in March celebrates the history and achievements of women and girls and their contributions to culture and society. Here are some great titles to explore.

Hennepin History: America's Finest Theater

Terrace Theater

Exhibit Open Now
Hennepin History Museum | 2303 3rd Ave S, Minneapolis

When the Terrace opened in Robbinsdale in 1951 it was called “America’s Finest Theatre.” The claim wasn’t just hype; early patrons of the cinema would assure you that it was one of our nation’s finest. The Terrace was a beloved movie house and architectural gem for half a century before it was demolished. America’s Finest Theater: The Terrace presents its history, the fight to save it, and efforts to preserve its legacy. This exhibit includes information about the Terrace’s owners, William and Sidney Volk, and its designers, Liebenberg and Kaplan. It will also display numerous historic photographs and two of the original Terrace marquee letters that will be relit for special occasions.

America’s Finest Theater was curated in collaboration with David Leonhardt, America’s Classic Cinemas and Robbinsdale Historical Society.

Visit the website for hours and more information on upcoming exhibits.
