$1.8M for affordable supportive housing

The board awarded $1.8 million for affordable supportive housing for people experiencing chronic homelessness.

This action aligns with Hennepin County's new affordable supportive housing strategy approved by the board in May 2019. Supportive housing includes onsite social services for those who require ongoing support to live independently.

 

Funding awards

2740 Project

$840,000 to construct 42 units of permanent supportive housing, with 30 units for people experiencing chronic homelessness 

  • Location: 2740 1st Avenue South, Minneapolis
  • Partners: Project for Pride in Living and Simpson Housing Services

 

3301 Nicollet

$500,000 to construct 63 affordable rental units, with 20 units for people experiencing chronic homelessness

  • Location: 3301 Nicollet, Minneapolis
  • Partners: Alliance Housing, Avivo, and Hayes Gibson

 

Bimosedaa

$500,000 for historic rehabilitation and adaptive reuse to create 48 units of supportive housing with services specialized to support Native Americans, with 15 units for people experiencing chronic homelessness

  • Location: 16 4th Street North, Minneapolis
  • Partners: Avivo, Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, and CommonBond Communities

Board approves contractor for regional medical examiner's facility

A new regional medical examiner’s facility is expected to open as early as 2021 in Minnetonka. The board approved the $36.8 million contract with Knutson Construction Services Inc. for construction of the 64,000 square-foot-facility. 


County to replace assistive voting devices

The board approved an application for a grant of up to $600,000 from the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State for replacement costs of assistive voting devices. The devices help voters with disabilities to mark their ballot privately and independently. The board committed matching funds for devices to be purchased in 2020.
