Clarification: Once homestead is granted, annual reapplication is not necessary. In some circumstances, verification may be requested by the assessor’s office.
If you sell, move, or for any reason do not qualify for the homestead classification, you are required to notify the county assessor within 30 days of the change in homestead status.
New homeowners or property owners who have not previously applied for homestead must apply by December 15 for homestead, including the veterans homestead exclusion.
Homestead applies to properties occupied as primary residences by their owners or relatives by December 1, 2019. The program may qualify the property for a reduced classification rate, reduced taxable market value, property tax refund, and special program eligibility.

If you or a family member is a veteran with a disability, you may quality for the veterans homestead exclusion. The deadline for this exclusion is also December 15.
