York Avenue/Xerxes Avenue (County Road 31) in Edina and Bloomington
Raised median construction in progress
This morning, crews began constructing raised medians on Xerxes Avenue (County Road 31) between 79th Street and American Boulevard in Bloomington.
Construction activities will consist of removing existing pavement, followed by forming and pouring concrete for the raised medians.
Weather permitting, work is expected to take up to three days to complete.
Repaving to follow
Once the medians are constructed, crews will repave York Avenue/Xerxes Avenue between 76th Street and American Boulevard in Edina and Bloomington.
Repaving will be completed in stages:
- First, we ground away, or mill, the existing pavement
- Then, we pave, or overlay, a new layer of pavement
- Finally, we add new striping and pavement markings
Weather permitting, this repaving work is expected to be completed in roughly two to three days.
Traffic impacts – expect delays
Median and repaving work will be completed alongside traffic. People driving should expect lane closures and day-to-day traffic configuration changes when traveling through the area.
We will keep at least one lane for each direction of traffic at all times. Flaggers may also be on site to help guide people driving on York/Xerxes Avenue.
Sidewalks will remain open for people walking and rolling.
Staying safe
For your safety and the safety of our crews, we ask that you obey all posted speed limits, stay alert and slow down where crews are working.
