Waiver Overview for Individuals Under 65

A basic overview of home and community-based waiver programs, including the Community Access for Disability Inclusion Waiver (CADI), Community Alternative Care Waiver (CAC), and Brain Injury Waiver (BI). These waiver programs provide community alternatives to nursing home level of care and hospital level of care. We will review the service menu for each program, provide examples of how the programs are used, and explain the process to apply for a long term care waiver. This session will also provide an overview of Consumer Directed Community Supports (CDCS).

Consumer Directed Community Support for Experienced Users

This session will provide more detailed information about Consumer Directed Community Support (CDCS) for people who are already using the program. We will focus on payroll models, minimum wage criteria, changes in employment options, and Fiscal Support Entity Services. How they will evolve, goal writing, job descriptions, and how to write a quality plan.

Consumer Support Grant Writing Workshop

This workshop is for families who have already completed Consumer Support Grant (CSG) training. During this workshop, CSG staff will be available to help families write their CSG Plans. Families will also have an opportunity to submit their plans for processing. In order to attend this workshop, the following prerequisites must be met: Straight Medical Assistance is active, PCA Assessment is current, and a Fiscal Support Entity (FSE) has been chosen by the family.

Family Support Grant

The Family Support Grant (FSG) program provides cash grants to families of children with certified disabilities. The goal is to prevent or delay out-of-home placement of children with disabilities and promote family health and social well-being by providing access to family-centered services and supports specific to the child’s disability.

This session will explain the basics of the FSG program and how to complete the application to ensure program compliance.

Consumer Support Grant

This is an introduction to the Consumer Support Grant (CSG). CSG is an alternative to Personal Care Assistance Services (MA Homecare). It is directed by the person. CSG allows people enrolled to access a different set of support services within their CSG budget. Examples are: prescribed special diets, art therapy, music therapy, and staff support. This session will explain how a person can access the program and how to use the funds allocated.

Who should attend?

People who attend must be currently open to Medical Assistance and have a current personal care assistance assignment. Please bring the person’s medical assistance number, and most recent PCA assessment to the training. Classes are limited to 20 per session.

Spenddowns

Why do some Medical Assistance recipients have to pay fees for services and others do not? This session will explain the specific income guidelines for services, define spenddowns and waiver program obligations, and tell you how these fees can be reduced in some specific circumstances.

Guardianship/Limited Guardianship

At age 18, any person is considered a competent adult unless a petition is filed for guardianship or limited guardianship in probate court. This introductory session will provide basic information on the difference between guardianship and limited guardianship and conservatorship. It will describe the individual powers assigned by the court, outline the responsibilities of the guardian, and offer options to complete the process at no cost.
