The board approved contracts that provide jobs for people on probation, voted to accept funding to help people with serious mental and chemical health challenges re-enter the workforce and more.

Probationers will gain job skills working on library, parks construction projects

The board approved two construction contracts that provide jobs and training for people on probation, through the county's Productive Day program.

At least 15 participants will work with Noor Companies on refurbishments at Hennepin County Library – Hosmer in south Minneapolis. Noor Construction previously worked with a Productive Day crew on the new Estes Funeral Chapel in North Minneapolis. 

Three Rivers Park District will also work with a crew on various projects through 2018, beginning with a wooden bridge project at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove.

Funding will help people with serious mental and chemical health challenges re-enter the workforce

The board voted to accept renewed state grant funding for the Vocational Services program, which helps people with serious mental and/or chemical health challenges re-enter the workforce. Participants work with the program at all stages of the employment process – from preparing for and finding a job to maintaining and advancing in a career.

Board recognizes American Legion Week in Hennepin County

The board declared August 24 - 30 American Legion Week in Hennepin County. The organization will host its national conference in Minneapolis that same week.
