Press Conference: New information about the prior incidents of
opioid overdoses and naloxone saves among Jail inmates
What: The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office recently
completed a One-Day Snapshot Study that examined the opioid use and abuse
histories of inmates in the Adult Detention Center. Inmates were interviewed by
Hennepin Healthcare RN's regarding their prior histories of opioid use, at the
time of booking. Public safety and medical leaders will announce the results of
this groundbreaking study, including the prevalence of overdose and naloxone saves.
When: Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 9:30 a.m.
Where: Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Jail (Public Safety
Facility - 401 4th Ave S, Minneapolis)
- If weather allows,
press conference will be held outside of the PSF, near the front entrance
- If weather does not
allow, press conference will be held inside of the PSF, just past the security
checkpoint
More: From 2015 to 2017, the
number of opioid-related deaths in Hennepin County increased by 65%, with a
record high 175 deaths during 2017. The Sheriff’s One-Day Snapshot Study seeks
to inform the Sheriff’s Office, its criminal justice partners, and the public
about the occurrence of opioid and heroin use and overdoses, the current public
safety response, and the need for new programs to help combat the deadly opioid
public safety crisis.
