Minnetonka incident
April 6, 2018 (MINNETONKA) – At approximately
2 p.m. Minnetonka Police officers began the pursuit of a vehicle on Minnetonka
Blvd after observing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.
Despite
police officers signaling their presence, the vehicle continued to flee.
Officers reportedly lost sight of the fleeing vehicle and a short time later
came upon a two vehicle accident near the intersection of Minnetonka Blvd and
Atwater St.
The driver
of the fleeing vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by responding
paramedics. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to an area
hospital for medical treatment.
The
Minnesota State Patrol is conducting accident reconstruction. The Hennepin
County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the chase and surrounding incident, at
the request of the Minnetonka Police Department.
The Hennepin
County Medical Examiner’s Office will make the identification and official cause
of death.
