Hennepin County Violent Crime Up Slightly

February 8, 2018 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Crime statistics show that Violent Crime was up two percent in Hennepin County during 2017 as compared to 2016.

The statistics also show that the county experienced a three percent increase in Property Crime when comparing 2017 to 2016.

“The good news is that Violent Crime is down 25 percent overall during the past 10 years, the not so good news is that we have seen a slight up-tick in Violent Crime during 2016 and 2017,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek. “The Sheriff’s Office number one priority for 2018 is to reduce Violent Crime in Hennepin County utilizing local and federal partnerships, and enforcement and investigation initiatives including our Violent Offender Task Force, warrants, and our Crime Lab.”

Part 1 Crimes, which is Violent Crime and Property Crime combined, was down three percent during the final three months of 2017, when compared to the final three months of 2016.
