Relief from the summer heat: online map shows places to cool off

Heat waves like the one the National Weather Service predicts for this weekend can be dangerous, especially for those at risk for heat-related illness.

With highs in the 80s and 90s this weekend, residents without air conditioning can find places to escape the heat using a web map created by Hennepin County. Young children, senior citizens and people who are sick or overweight are most vulnerable.

Maps are available for desktop or mobile devices.

Find cooling locations

Use the map to find cool options throughout Hennepin County, including Salvation Army buildings, libraries, recreation centers, movie theaters and shopping malls.

The map allows residents to zoom in on specific locations in neighborhoods and find addresses, hours of operation and more.
