Monday, March 27 marks the beginning of Hennepin County’s
transportation construction season. During 2017, Hennepin County’s
Transportation Department will deliver on several projects designed to get
residents around the county safely and efficiently within a balanced, environmentally sound county transportation system.
Two major projects
begin and several others continue
This spring, large reconstruction projects start on 66th
Street (County Road 53) in Richfield and Wayzata Boulevard (County Road 112) in
Long Lake and Orono. Both are multiple-year efforts that will provide – among
other improvements – better driving surfaces, new facilities for pedestrians
and enhanced aesthetics. Additionally:
-
The 66th Street project will provide new bicycle
facilities, address drainage concerns and improve storm water quality
conditions. Pre-construction work began in fall 2016. Major work will begin
March 27.
-
The Wayzata Boulevard project includes
restoration of the shoreline on Long Lake, additional roadway lighting and
updates to trails and boulevards. Major work is scheduled to begin in April.
Other major county projects that are resuming work
this year include:
- Bottineau Boulevard (County Road 81) in Brooklyn
Park
-
Douglas Drive (County Road 102) in Golden Valley
-
Washington Avenue (County Road 152) in downtown
Minneapolis
These projects are scheduled to resume March
27.
Later this year, crews will begin reconstruction work at the
intersection of Pinto Drive (County Roads 115 and 116) and Highway 55 in
Medina.
City-led construction
projects
Two city-led projects on county roads are also in the mix. The City of Bloomington continues its work on Normandale Boulevard (County Road 34).
And, the City of Plymouth will embark on adjacent reconstruction and repaving
projects on County Road 24 near Highway 55.
Other notable
activities
Other projects that have begun or will begin soon include: continued
rehabilitation under-the-deck work on the Franklin Avenue (County Road 5)
Bridge in Minneapolis; bridge replacement work on the 46th Street (County Road
46) Bridge over the Godfrey Parkway in Minneapolis, the Brown Road (County Road
146) Bridge in Orono; and a maintenance project on Lake Street (County Road 3)
Bridge over the Mississippi River.
Starting around May, Transportation operations and
maintenance crews will begin several smaller-scale road projects including
repaving, restriping and pavement sealing projects.
Additional information about 2017 county road and bridge
projects and activities can be found at www.hennepin.us/residents#transportation.
The county appreciates residents’ patience and understanding
during these projects and activities. We remind people to slow down when traveling past construction sites and county crews and to allow for extra time
when traveling during construction season.
