County board holding public hearing on county transportation and transit tax plan

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners hosted a public hearing today before the Public Works Committee to take public comment on the imposition and potential uses of a new sales tax.

View full details in the county’s sales and use transportation tax implementation plan.

The hearing will continue before the board on Tuesday, March 28, at 1:30 p.m., in the board room (A-2400) of the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South Sixth Street, Minneapolis.

About the tax plan

The board is considering a new sales tax of up to one-half cent to fund transportation and transit projects.

This tax would replace the current one-quarter cent sales tax imposed by the county for the Counties Transit Improvement Board (CTIB).

An existing $20 excise tax on new car sales would continue under the proposed new plan.
