February 3, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Recently
released crime statistics for Hennepin County show a three percent increase in
Violent Crime during 2016 when compared to the previous year. Violent Crime is
defined as: homicide, rape, business robbery, person-to-person robbery, and
aggravated assault.
“We are constantly
reevaluating our public safety strategies and redirecting our resources to
better fight crime in the county,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek.
“As always, we need the help of community leaders and residents. We all share
the responsibility to prevent crime and partner in keeping our families and
neighborhoods safe. We welcome all crime tips, including anonymous tips.”
Although the
Violent Crime rate increased, the 2016 statistics show a 26 percent decrease in
Homicide across the County when compared to 2015.
Both
Property Crimes and Part 1 Crimes are up less than one percent and one percent respectively.
Property crimes include: business burglary, residential burglary, larceny,
motor vehicle theft, and arson. Part 1 Crimes include both violent crime and
property crime.
