A man was charged with second-degree murder for killing a neighborhood mechanic while he was working on the defendant's car, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Tuesday.
Rondell Russell Camp, 24, address unknown, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 56-year-old Steve Parker, Sr.
According to the criminal complaint, police and emergency responders assisted Camp in the alley of the 3700 block of Aldrich Ave N. early Sunday evening. Witnesses saw Camp crawling through the alley. He was screaming and in great pain. Camp told them that there was a dead body in a nearby garage. One of the witnesses investigated and found Parker lying on the garage floor.
Police and emergency responders quickly determined that Parker had recently died. The complaint states that Parker had numerous cuts to his head as well as broken bones in his face. Responders located a large stab wound on the left side of Parker’s neck beneath his ear. He also had numerous defensive wounds to both hands. There was a large pool of blood beneath Parker’s head and a box wrench was found under his shoulder. Blood was splattered on the car and other surfaces.
According to the complaint, Parker often repaired cars in the garage. Witnesses told police they overhead a loud argument from inside the garage. The next thing they heard was Camp screaming in pain in the alley.
Police rode with Camp to the hospital for treatment for his leg. He had no apparent injuries that were consistent with the amount of blood on his hands, face and clothing. Camp claimed he drove to Parker’s garage, and in fact, the car in the garage was owned by Camp. Upon entering the hospital, Camp told family members that he was going to jail, the complaint states..
Camp is in custody and is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
