January
18, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) – This morning, a group of Hennepin County Sheriff’s
Office deputies departed for Washington D.C. where they will work at the
Inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, 2017.
The Sheriff’s
Office is sending 40 personnel to the inauguration where they will provide security along the route
of the Inaugural Parade. Sheriff’s
personnel are officially sworn-in as deputy marshals during their security
assignment.
“It is an
honor for our Agency to be selected to assist with this national event,” said
Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, “I think it is a testament to the
professionalism of our deputies, and I know they will proudly represent
Hennepin County at our Nation’s Capital.”
This is the
fourth consecutive Presidential Inauguration in which the Sheriff’s Office has
provided personnel. There will be approximately 200 law enforcement officers
from throughout Minnesota working at the event including personnel from several
metro area agencies.
Because more
than a million people are expected in Washington D.C., law enforcement
organizers ask other agencies to augment existing personnel in order to handle
crowd control and security duties.
Travel
expenses for the Sheriff’s Office personnel and all costs associated with the
inauguration are paid by the federal government.
