Homicide Investigation and Officer Involved Shooting

November 23, 2016 (EDINA) – The Prior Lake Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at 2100 block of Sioux Trail NW in Prior Lake early this morning. 

At 2:11 a.m. Scott County Dispatch received a 911 call of a shooting. Prior Lake Police officers responded and observed a vehicle leaving the residence. One officer entered the house and found an unresponsive adult male with multiple gunshot wounds, along with several witnesses.

Mdewakanton Public Safety Paramedics responded, provided treatment to the victim, and transported him to St. Francis Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Another Prior Lake Police officer attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and the officer gave chase.

The pursuit eventually entered Hennepin County, at which point officers from the Eden Prairie Police Department joined the pursuit. The vehicle became disabled near the intersection of Highway 169 and Londonderry Rd. in Edina.

The vehicle was occupied by three individuals, two fled and were immediately taken into custody. The remaining suspect was pursued on foot by Eden Prairie officers. During the foot pursuit, the suspect fired a weapon at law enforcement officers. In response, two Eden Prairie Police officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.

Responding law enforcement officers involved were uninjured during the incident.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, at the request of the Eden Prairie Police Department, the officer involved shooting.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Officer are assisting the Prior Lake Police Department in the homicide investigation.

At this time all suspects are believed to be in custody.
