Hennepin County and Minneapolis Bike Coalition celebrate Minneapolis Bike Week with Commuter Challenge

What:  Minneapolis Bike Week Commuter Challenge presented by Minneapolis Bike Coalition and Hennepin County

When: Today, Tuesday, May 12, 2015, from 4-6 p.m.

Where: Target Field Station

Info: Grab your bike and Go Outside with Hennepin County for the Minneapolis Bike Week Commuter Challenge presented by the Minneapolis Bike Coalition. Three individuals will face off in the Commuter Challenge — racing by bike [Lisa Bender—Minneapolis City Council Member Ward 10], light rail [Marion Greene—Hennepin County Commissioner, District 3] and car [Car2Go representative] from Target Field Station to South Minneapolis. This light-hearted and fun race will highlight effective options for commuting to and from work each day and will offer activities for the public before and after the race.

The Minneapolis Bike Week Commuter Challenge will highlight Minneapolis Bike Week and the benefits of biking during your commute. Don’t miss out on all the action, including:

  • Behind the Big Wheel, a chance to sit inside large commercial vehicles and understand blind spots and challenges when big trucks and bikes share the road, presented by the Bike Alliance of Minnesota starting at 4 p.m.;
  • Minneapolis Bike Coalition's group bike ride starting at 5:30 p.m., leaving from Target Field Station and ending at Minnehaha Park — open to all ages and abilities;
  • The Commuter Challenge presented by the Minneapolis Bike Coalition begins at 5:30 p.m., starting at Target Field Station and ending at Minnehaha Park;
  • Metro Transit demonstrating how to use on-bus bike racks;
  • Commuter Connection presenting an array of options for traveling to and from Downtown Minneapolis.

The Minneapolis Bike Week Commuter Challenge is part of Hennepin County’s summer-long “Go Outside” campaign, which will include various events at Target Field Station and Hennepin County Government center promoting outdoor activities, entertainment and education.
