Governor Walz signed bipartisan legislation, passed within days of the legislative session kicking off, providing $100 million in tax cuts to Minnesota students, families, and businesses.
“This bipartisan legislation will make tax filing easier and provide direct relief to students and businesses across Minnesota,” said Governor Walz. “We are working swiftly and collaboratively to deliver on things that will lower costs and provide relief for families. I’m grateful to our partners in the legislature who wasted no time getting this done for Minnesota.”
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced that Minnesota is the second best state to raise a family. This ranking comes as the Governor and Lieutenant Governor recently pledged to make Minnesota the best state in the country for kids.
On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Governor Walz celebrated the work of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) to keep people and communities across Minnesota safe. In 2022, DPS recovered nearly 500 firearms, assisted with 99 crime scene investigations, and helped Minnesotans recover from three federal natural disasters that caused nearly $50 million in damages.
On Monday, Governor Walz took a ride in the first Minnesota-made electric firetruck.
"The future of clean, efficient transportation is here. And this electric fire truck – manufactured right here in Wyoming, Minnesota – is proof that our state is poised to lead in a clean energy economy," said Governor Walz.
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan will recognize Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Minnesota by hosting a state breakfast and issuing a proclamation marking the state holiday. This announcement comes before the 37th Annual State of Minnesota Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration, which all Minnesotans are invited to attend.
