Governors Walz, DeWine Issue Bipartisan Response to Russian Invasion of Ukraine


Governor Walz and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued a bipartisan response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Governor Walz and Governor DeWine serve as co-chairs of the presidentially-appointed Council of Governors. Both governors are committed to working with leaders at the federal level and across the nation and world to stand against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“We stand with Ukraine and condemn Russia for these unprovoked and unlawful attacks,” said Governor Walz. “We stand ready to support the federal government in guiding our nation through this violent time, and I am committed to standing together with leaders at all levels of government, regardless of political party, to work towards peace. It’s time to unite, protect democracy, and work together to end this violence and hold Russia accountable.”


Governor Walz Launches Statewide Public Safety Tour

Governor Walz launched a statewide public safety tour in Brooklyn Park on Wednesday to hear from Minnesotans on the public safety needs in their communities and discuss what his public safety budget – including $300 million for cities, counties, and tribes – would mean for communities across the state.

A detailed list of the funding that would be made available to each community is available online. The average city in Minnesota would receive about $240,000 to invest in public safety with the Walz-Flanagan Budget to Move Minnesota Forward. Brooklyn Park would receive over $1.48 million per year.

Governor Walz continued the statewide public safety tour Friday with a stop in Duluth to discuss what his public safety budget would mean for Duluth and communities across the state. Under the Governor’s budget, Duluth would receive nearly $1.5 million per year to invest in public safety.

Governor Walz met with African American community leaders on Thursday to discuss economic development.

“When we talk about expanding our economy and increasing economic opportunity, everyone needs a seat at the table,” said Governor Walz. “Grateful for these leaders in the Black community for sharing their wisdom and expertise with us as we work together to make our economy stronger and more inclusive.”


Governor Walz Goes Ice Fishing, Visits Outdoor Recreation Business to Promote Minnesota Tourism Economy

Last week, Governor Walz toured the Clam Corporation, a Minnesota-based ice fishing and outdoor apparel manufacturer in Rogers before going ice fishing to promote Minnesota’s tourism economy and one of Minnesota’s most profitable and beloved winter outdoor sports.

“Ice fishing is a way of life for so many Minnesotans and is a huge part of our state’s outdoor recreation industry,” said Governor Walz. “We are committed to preserving our natural resources and expanding this industry so more Minnesotans can enjoy this tradition for years to come. I encourage all Minnesotans to get outside and spend some time enjoying the lakes this winter and all year long.”


Governor Walz Issues Writ of Special Election to Fill Vacancy in First Congressional District


Governor Walz issued a writ of special election on Tuesday to fill a vacancy in the current Congressional District 1 after the death of Representative Jim Hagedorn.
