Governor Walz Joins First Lady Jill Biden to Recognize Minnesota’s Investments in Child Care

On Wednesday, Governor Walz, Minnesota’s First Lady Gwen Walz, and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan joined Dr. Jill Biden and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra at the University of Minnesota to discuss how the pandemic has impacted child care and highlight ways Minnesota has been a national leader in protecting children and making child care available throughout the pandemic.


Governor Walz Celebrates Workers’ Compensation for First Responders, Frontline Workers

Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan held a ceremonial bill signing on Friday at the Brooklyn Park Central Fire Station alongside first responders, frontline workers, and labor leaders to celebrate the passage of a bill that extends workers’ compensation benefits to frontline workers who contract COVID-19 on the job. This is the first bill passed in Minnesota’s 2022 legislative session.


Governor Walz Authorizes State Disaster Assistance for Eight Southeast Minnesota Communities


Governor Walz authorized emergency assistance on Tuesday for Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Steele, and Wabasha counties for damage sustained during a severe thunderstorm on December 15, 2021.

“When disaster strikes, Minnesotans stand ready to help their neighbors,” said Governor Walz. “We will work closely with these counties to ensure they have the resources and support they need to recover in the wake of these storms.”


Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Announce Appointments to the Young Women’s Cabinet


Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced nine new appointments to the Young Women’s Cabinet. Comprised of 26 young women, the cabinet is a part of the Young Women’s Initiative of Minnesota, a public-private systems change partnership with the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota to achieve equity in opportunities and improve the lives of the lives of young Black, Indigenous, and women of color; young women from Greater Minnesota; LGBTQ+ youth; and young women with disabilities.

“We know that young women are leaders within and outside their communities,” said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. “This initiative is a demonstration of our commitment to center the powerful voices, stories, and ideas of young women – especially those from underrepresented communities – in our decisions to build a stronger, more equitable state for all Minnesotans.”
