Sept. 6-9, Northfield Defeat of Jesse James Days The annual Defeat of Jesse James Days is a wild and wooly community festival that revolves around one of the most dramatic episodes of the Old West -- the Great Northfield, Minnesota Bank Raid of 1876. The townspeople of Northfield re-enact the James-Younger Gang's notorious 1876 bank raid on the town. Horses thunder down the historic Main Street and bullets fly during the many authentic bank raid re-enactments that tell this amazing story. It is street theater at its best! Other highlights include the Northfield Arts Guild Riverfront Fine Art Festival, car shows, professional rodeo, parades, live music, great food and plenty of fun family activities. Sept. 7 - Oct. 27, Wabasha SeptOberfest Attend the 11th Annual SeptOberfest and explore an array of artistic displays including the largest pumpkins, tallest sunflowers, scarecrows, fall flowers, gourds, topiaries and more. While meandering past Wabasha’s beautiful autumn decorations enjoy festive German music, pumpkin races, carriage rides, ethnic food and 5 Seasonal Boutiques. Sept. 8-9, Winona Great Dakota Gathering The Great Dakota Gathering celebrates the growing relationship between the people of Winona and the people of the Dakota Nations. Sept. 13-16, La Crescent AppleFest The annual AppleFest festival celebrates La Crescent's apple industry and the history of the community. Sept. 15, Comfrey An Evening Look at the Carvings Explore the rock face in bare feet in the evening to see petroglyphs off the regular path when the lighting is best to view them. Over the past several years, an extensive conservation project identified an additional 3,000 petroglyphs, which until recently have been covered in lichen. Visitors can explore on their own, but an interpreter will be available to answer questions and direct visitors to carvings. Visitors should be prepared to walk barefoot on uneven surfaces. Sept. 22, New Prague Dozínky Dozínky, a Czech End of Harvest Festival, is patterned after the "old-country" original. Highlights include the Parade of Farm Pride, ethnic food and merchandise vendors in an open-air marketplace, beer garden with authentic Czech beer, children's events, demonstrations, and ethnic bands, singers and dancers performing on three stages. Aug. 20 - Oct. 7, Minneapolis Hamilton Hamilton is the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton is the story of America then, as told by America now.
