This bulletin is being sent at the request of Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management
On May 1, 2018, public safety personnel responded to a slumper call at a Twin Cities grocery store parking lot and discovered the occupant had taken his life by chemical suicide.
As a result of this suicide and the subsequent hazardous materials response, Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management created a Chemical Suicide Awareness Bulletin to alert the EMS and public safety communities to the significant dangers posed from chemical suicides and attempts.
Although rare events (since 2012, there have been approximately 10 completed or attempted chemical suicides in Minnesota), the threat to responder safety is real.
