Hello! Enrollment at the colleges and universities of Minnesota State is up more than 4% this fall compared to last, and that’s the third year in a row there’s been an increase. This is exciting news for Minnesota because our students become the talent our state’s employers need to grow our economy. What’s also exciting is seeing our students’ potential bloom. Today I introduce you to two students who are both nearing completion of their respective programs and are both learning what they’re capable of through their college experiences. Enjoy!

 Failure Isn't the End of the Road: Neurodivergent Student From Dakota County Technical College Shares His Success Story
Kenechi Ezeokafor’s transition to college wasn’t easy. He failed his first semester at Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) and was placed on academic suspension. But Kenechi says he was able to regain his balance academically through support systems at the college and is now on track to not only graduate with a double major this coming spring but is also the Student Senate president at DCTC.

 A Novel Discovery: Bemidji State University Student Researcher Discovers New Bacteria-Targeting Virus
Bill Ketola originally came to Bemidji State University to play football, and he continues to love his time on the field with the Beavers. But the senior Biology Sciences major says he ended up loving the academic side and the research he does in class as well. That research led to Bill isolating a previously uncatalogued phage (virus) that may eventually play a role in treatments for tuberculosis.
