The path to finding a career filled with passion and success can be a winding one. But the solid foundation of a Minnesota State education is a strong first step. The alums featured in the stories below are prime examples of that solid foundation. Neither could have predicted what they would be doing today when they started college, but both credit what they learned at Minnesota State institutions with the success they have found. Enjoy!

Scholarship from Minnesota West Starts Veterinarian on Unique Journey
Andrew Bents took advantage of a valuable presidential scholarship from Minnesota West Community & Technical College to earn associate degrees in both arts and science. From there, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, returning to Worthington to practice both small and large animal care. Now, with an interest in swine health, Bents serves as a Swine Technical Veterinarian working both with the local Worthington area as well as globally.

Teaching Degree from SCSU Prepares Alum for Business Ownership
Kelsey Bean was first hired to work summers and weekends at The Chocolate Ox, a candy and ice cream shop in Nisswa, when she was 15. She continued to work there while she was at St. Cloud State University. She even worked there after graduating and teaching elementary school full-time. This past March, using many of the skills she says she learned during her time at SCSU, she took over ownership of the business, and hasn’t looked back.
