Hello! This past year, Minnesota State awarded more than 36,000 degrees, certificates, and diplomas. The contributions of Minnesota State graduates are critically important to the economic vitality of the state. Alumni living and working in Minnesota number more than 849,000 and Minnesota State graduates contribute an estimated $9.4 billion to the states’ economy. Today I share with you stories from two of our institutions—the first features a student who will soon be entering the workforce as a teacher and the second introduces us to a graduate who built his career in Minnesota public safety. Minnesota State University Moorhead Student is Heart of the Center for the Arts
Emma Dettmann is double majoring in vocal music education and instrumental music education at Minnesota State University Moorhead. You can find her plucking, writing, or singing all day throughout her music classes. Once she graduates, she will be a versatile teacher in any school setting with both a choral and instrumental background.

Inver Hills Community College Alumnus Serves as Dakota County Sheriff
Joe Leko was elected sheriff of Dakota County in November 2022. Twenty-eight years earlier, he graduated from Inver Hills Community College with an Associate of Science in Law Enforcement. Joe says his education at Inver Hills opened his eyes to the critical role policing plays in our communities and the heavy responsibility that comes with it.
