Minnesota State recently released a study showing the 26 colleges and seven universities that comprise the system had a total impact on the state’s economy of $8.4 billion in FY2022. This study also concludes that the economic activity of the system supported or sustained 62,125 jobs throughout the state. We are proud to be the 11th largest employer in the state, as well as the workforce engine for Minnesota. Below I share two stories of alums who are now a part of our state’s workforce, thanks to an education at Minnesota State colleges and universities. Enjoy!

Northern Minnesota's Largest Candy Store has Sweet Bemidji State University Ties
Bemidji State University alumna Ashley Parrott ’17 and her husband John took a leap of faith when they opened Sweetly Kismet just as the pandemic was hitting in 2020. But Ashley, who is also a labor and delivery nurse, kept the faith that their fledgling business would get off the ground and they are now tasting the sweet reward.

Saint Paul College Welding Alum Finds Niche in Aerospace Industry
Braden Shelton wanted to work in a field where he could do something with his hands and see the results of his work. When he found out the average age of a welder in the United States is 63, he thought that would be a great career path. Braden transferred to the Saint Paul College Welding program and hasn’t looked back.
