Earlier this month, Nely Guerra-Rivera started with the EPPD as a cadet.
Cadets assist officers by responding to a variety of community needs including animal control, enforcement of parking violations and other ordinances, performing fingerprinting services, providing traffic direction and assisting officers with other service-related duties.
Cadet Guerra-Rivera graduated from Prior Lake High School and is attending Normandale Community College to pursue an associate’s degree in law enforcement. Prior to coming to Eden Prairie, she worked as a community service officer for the City of South St. Paul for three years.
During their program, cadets receive learning opportunities and interdepartmental mentorship with the goal of being promoted to police officer at the conclusion of their cadet assignment.
As part of the program, the City pays the cadet’s tuition for a two-year degree in law enforcement or the last two years of a four-year degree in law enforcement. The duration of the assignment is 2-4 years, depending on the length of the education sought by the cadet.
Welcome, Cadet Guerra-Rivera!
