Since 2016, Eden Prairie detectives have participated in 34 sting operations in the metro area that have resulted in the arrest of 362 individuals for human trafficking-related offenses.
In addition, they have connected with 106 victims, offering them resources such as treatment, housing, jobs and life skills.
Investigators from Eden Prairie collaborate with federal, state and local law enforcement personnel on sting operations including the “494 Corridor Group” whose core members consist of the Bloomington, Richfield, Minnetonka, Plymouth and Maple Grove Police Departments. Their goal is to investigate crimes related to human trafficking along Interstate 494.
Stop the Trafficking Run: June 15
One way you can help combat human trafficking is to the participate in the Stop the Trafficking Run either in-person at Purgatory Creek Park on June 15 or virtually June 15–23. Due to the race’s generous sponsors, 100% of the proceeds will go to local organizations helping sexually exploited youth and women including ACT United, Beloved and House of Hope. This year, funds will also be used to purchase supplies for victim care packages to support the 494 Corridor Group’s recovery operations.
A team comprised of representatives from the EPPD, local churches, businesses and the City of Eden Prairie’s Human Rights and Diversity Commission are working together to plan this event in cooperation with local anti-trafficking organizations. Their goal is to join together as a community, raise awareness and engage in the fight to Stop the Trafficking.
