Last week retired EPPD K-9 Riggs passed away at age 11.

He served in Eden Prairie from 2014 to 2019 with his handler Officer Scott Mittelstadt (now Sgt. Mittelstadt), and spent his retirement years living with the Mittelstadt family.

Riggs was a German Shepherd who came to the EPPD from Slovakia when he was 15 months old. He graduated from the St. Paul Police Department Canine School in 2014. Riggs thoroughly enjoyed going to work every day. During his tenure as an Eden Prairie K-9, Riggs had multiple finds resulting from tracks and searches. He also performed countless public demonstrations. In retirement, Riggs loved going for walks and playing with anyone who would throw a ball for him. He will be greatly missed by his immediate family and extended Police Department family.
