The Eden Prairie Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 10000 block of Lee Drive at approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday, June 2.
Firefighters arrived to find two adjacent single-family homes fully engulfed in flames, and they extinguished the fire.
The homes’ occupants escaped, with two adults and two children transported to Hennepin Healthcare for non-life-threatening injuries. Three victims were treated and released, and one adult continues to be treated for burns. Two dogs and three cats remain unaccounted for.
Damage to both homes is significant, and the fire also affected nearby structures. The surrounding neighborhood was briefly evacuated as a precaution, and the fire victims have secured temporary housing.
There are multiple reports of an explosion preceding the fire, and Eden Prairie fire inspectors are investigating to determine the cause.
Mutual aid partners, including Bloomington, Chanhassen, Edina, Excelsior, Hopkins, Minnetonka and St. Louis Park, assisted Eden Prairie Fire in the response.
