City parks and natural resources staff, with assistance from the Fire Department, are conducting prescribed prairie burns at Richard T. Anderson Conservation Area this fall.
Burns will occur over the next several weeks, dependent on weather conditions.
Prescribed burns help to rejuvenate growth and ensure long-term survival of the native prairie by controlling invasive plants. After burning, the ground will appear charred, but plant regrowth will occur in the spring and produce a variety of new species.
If you have any questions, contact the City’s Parks and Natural Resources Division.
