Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as Taya Kyle offers her take on the spirit of service, as well as the challenges facing Veterans, first responders and their families. Taya will also address the value of knowing who you are, what you believe in and standing strong for it.
Taya's late husband was "American Sniper" Chris Kyle. Chris was a Navy SEAL, New York Times Best Selling author, and perhaps the deadliest man to ever peer through the scope of a military rifle. Since his tragic death in February of 2013, even with all she's been through, Taya is still incredibly grateful.
Taya's raw reflections in American Sniper help us to peer into the world of what it means to remember the heroes and heroines left at home while their partners deploy overseas. Taya and Chris' story will serve as the focus of the feature film American Sniper.
Jim DeFelice, co-author of American Sniper will participate in this exciting evening, sharing his reflections, as well as moderating the Question and Answer session. Jim is also working with Taya on American Wife slated to be published in 2015.

The Vietnam War Era Last Man Club, St. Peter, Minnesota, will observe Vietnam Veteran’s Day on March 29, 2015, at 1500 hrs (3:00 p.m.) at the St. Peter Community Center gymnasium.
On January 12, 1962, United States Army pilots lifted more than 1,000 South Vietnamese service members over jungle and underbrush to capture a National Liberation Front Stronghold near Saigon. The last of the United States troops left Vietnam on March 29, 1973.
Three million Americans answered our country’s call and served, wearing the uniform of the United States during those eleven years. More than 58,000 laid down their lives in service to our country; thousands more returned with shrapnel and scars; and still thousands more were burdened with the invisible wounds of post-traumatic stress, of Agent Orange, of memories that would never fade.
The Vietnam Veteran’s Day observance will recognize the seven St. Peter community members killed in action in Vietnam: PFC Frederick Joseph Brenke; SP4 Harvey Gordon Enz; PFC Melvin Albert Lurth; 2LT Michael James McClellan; PFC Dwight Duane Tollefson; PFC Richard Raymond Weise; and PFC Steven Edward Wettergren.
Major General Larry Shellito, retired Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard, and current Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, will keynote the program. The Mankato Riverblenders Barbershop Chorus will provide patriotic selections. Vietnam War Era Last Man Club Commander Windy Block will preside over the observance, which is open to the public and free of charge.
World's largest annual wheelchair sports event for disabled U.S. Veterans
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is accepting applications for the 2015 National Veterans Wheelchair Games. Registration began in early January and will close April 15.
The National Veterans Wheelchair Games is a sports and rehabilitation program for military service Veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, amputations or certain neurological problems. Each year, hundreds of disabled Veterans travel from around the country to compete in the Games, which is the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world. With them, they bring the fighting spirit and tenacity that defines the Veterans of our Armed Forces.
“I encourage all eligible Veterans to take this opportunity to prove yet again that disability does not mean inability,” said VA Secretary Robert McDonald.
Competitive events at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games include air guns, archery, basketball, bowling, field events, hand cycling, a motorized wheelchair rally, nine-ball, power soccer, quad rugby, slalom, softball, swimming, table tennis, track, trapshooting and weightlifting. Athletes compete in all events against others with similar athletic ability, competitive experience or age.
The 2015 National Veterans Wheelchair Games will take place in Dallas, Texas, from June 21-26. The Games are cosponsored by VA and Paralyzed Veterans of America, VA's partner in this annual event since 1985. For more information, please visit www.wheelchairgames.org and follow VA Adaptive Sports on Twitter at @VAAdaptiveSport.
The Minnesota DAV will be hosting their annual Turkey Hunt for Veterans
